New Meadows to the Selway (by way of Elk City, of course)

On the fourth we rode along lots of rivers! We started with the Little Salmon, then to the Salmon, and on up to Grangeville and down to the South Fork of the Clearwater. The morning temperatures were perfect--not too hot, not too cold, and we made it to Elk City in the early afternoon. On the recommendation of Tim from Happy Trails in Garden City, we took FR 443. He said the road was washed out, but on our motorcycles we'd be fine. This was an incredible dirt road that took us through groves of cedar and down to Meadow Creek. The road was narrow, but the washout had been fixed.
We camped at the confluence of Meadow Creek and the Selway. Swimming and fishing were top notch!

odometer:  332 miles

  1. How cool. If you can imagine it, I spent three summers in Elk City. Too bad you didn't have time for some heavy drinking and shooting. Really makes the afternoons go fast in the summers. -Shea
