It was a great ride and we returned to our comfy digs at the Denali Bluffs for a hot shower after a full day of exploring.

Healy, AK: Day trip to the Susitna River
We set out for a day trip along the Denali Highway, a dirt road. The views were great, and included glaciers and a few peaks over 11,000 feet. For those of you who like camping, this is THE road to take--you really can't go wrong here, and we figured you could spend at least a week out here exploring. When we reached the Susitna River, we crossed the wood and metal bridge and took a side road that led up to an old gold mine. The guide book said, "We don't recommend travel on this road beyond one mile," so of course, we had to check it out.

ReplyDeleteSince your not going to give me maps, I need to know about aching bones, sore wrists, having to pry yourself out of bed because you are so worked from riding and riding and riding. Or is every day in the Artic Sunday?
ReplyDeleteSeriously, OK, semi, I'm impressed because the one hour ride from Boise to GV works me. When I arrive I have to sit down and rest for half an hour. Are there rest stops in the Artic?

ReplyDeleteWish we were all on the ride with you as we are hanging out at cynthia's cabin waiting for the 100 degree heat to drop enough to go home! Can't wait for you to get back and join us on the river- we miss you! Also can't wait to hear the nitty gritty details and see more big pics! Hi to the Weinrobe too!!!
