Day 2: Canada Day!
We loaded up and headed for the border this morning, via Plummer, Idaho to reconnect with Hwy 95, with a pit stop in Coeur d'Alene. Mark has come to enjoy rock star status with his cool bike, and was immediately swarmed by fans when we pulled over at a coffee shop.
The clouds started to gather as we headed north, so we bundled up and over the border we went. Porkchop, who is typically on edge and ready to burst into tears at any moment, was reassured at the border crossing by a picture of the Queen.
It started raining, but the views along Hwy 3A were gorgeous.
We hopped right on the ferry over to Balfour, about a 30 minute ride.
Once in Nelson, we dried out at the Hume Hotel, and headed over to our friends' house for a wonderful warm dinner. People were gathering at their house to enjoy the fireworks display in celebration of Canada Day. We were too tired to stay up and watch, so off we went, back to the Hume, to plot out our next day and get some sleep.
The daytime weather forecast for tomorrow looks good as we head toward the mountains. It would appear that we will be needing the tarp again in the evening...
Distance today: 225 miles (a short one)
Total: 615 miles
