DAY 1: Heading out of Boise, with yet another team member
Adam and I met early Saturday morning at a local coffee shop. Wren and Romy met us to say goodbye, and much to my surprise, Adam announced that he was bringing his girlfriend. This was not something we had discussed at our planning meeting. Furthermore, I became immediately aware that she was a big eater, and I wasn't sure we'd have enough food for everyone if she joined us. Her name is Akkiloki (Loki), and here she is grabbing some bacon before we head out.
We stopped in New Meadows to pick up Mark, and then headed down the Salmon River on 95. Our route turned away to the east and up to Hwy 3 going north, through some beautiful old towns up to St. Maries, where we stopped to get gas. Paul Bunyan was there to greet us.
Just down the road, we entered Heyburn State Park, the oldest state park in Idaho. It is a pretty incredible place, with miles and miles of hiking and biking trails. And when we were there, lots of rain. Fortunately, we have the best tarp in the universe, a 12 foot Kelty, which we set up, LED lights and all, over our picnic table. It got a 100% rating on the Porkchop (that's Adam) Gear Analysis Scale.
Here is Loki, facing down a slug, probably thinking, "dinner?!"

That Loki really knows how to wrangle a slice of bacon.
